PowerTitan placement concept at a refrigerated warehouse. Engineering design determines system scope and siting.
For refrigerated warehouse operators
Backup power for cold storage warehouses
Cooling demand continues between dispatches. We design backup power for cold storage warehouses with Sungrow for agreed cold rooms, compressors and temperature monitoring. Daily cycles, motor starts and your existing generator guide the selection.
Cold room backup power needs a list of interdependent consumers. Assess the compressor group together with circulation, heat rejection and controls.
Compressor duty
Running cycles, starting currents and simultaneous units. Establish electrical input separately: rated cooling capacity is not the electrical power the system requires.
Rooms and circulation
Evaporator fans, pumps and other equipment in the actual refrigeration circuit. Identify the components that must operate together for the selected zones.
Heat rejection
Condensers, fans and auxiliary drives. Their duty depends on the installation and ambient conditions, so a room list alone cannot define the power scope.
Control and alerts
Controllers, sensors, temperature records and notifications. Assess dedicated UPS provision for electronics with strict supply interruption limits.
For owners, refrigeration engineers and quality teams
Define the storage duty first
Agree the required storage conditions and permissible interruption for each zone. Then specify the electrical arrangement needed to support that operating scenario.
Room priorities
Identify zones that need power first. Account for stored goods, storage requirements and any refrigeration plant shared across rooms.
Visible deviations
Plan power for monitoring and alerts with the refrigeration team. Retained records help responsible staff assess conditions and respond to events.
Warehouse operations
Review receiving schedules, door openings and dispatch. Backup is assessed for agreed conditions; changed throughput requires a fresh demand review.
A defined investment
Compare options by their consumer list and infrastructure. Owners can see which zones and functions each project budget actually includes.
Connecting refrigeration, controls and electrical sources
Design around the cold room cycle
Storage, loading and recovery after an interruption create different duties. Coordinate sources and controls around the agreed refrigeration operating cycle.
01. Describe the zones
Collect storage requirements, temperature records and permissible interruptions. The refrigeration and quality teams define the minimum operating duty.
02. Measure the cycles
Compare daily demand with compressor starts, evaporator defrost and goods movements. Short peaks require measurements at a suitable interval.
03. Coordinate supplies
Assess storage, the generator, source transfer, protection and charging. Islanded operation needs a complete compatible electrical arrangement and settings.
04. Test recovery
Agree restart delays and equipment sequence using the refrigeration manufacturer’s documentation. Test source transitions with the refrigeration specialists.
Electrical backup alone does not guarantee the condition of every stored product. The responsible warehouse team defines temperature limits, permitted deviations and product handling decisions.
Sungrow for dedicated rooms and large facilities
Match storage to refrigeration duty
Assess PowerTitan with the required electrical infrastructure for a large compressor group. Evaluate PowerStack for a compatible dedicated load. Warehouse size alone does not determine the model.
Sungrow PowerStack 255CS-2H
Rated AC output
125 kW
Nominal battery capacity
257 kWh
Nominal 125 kW and 257 kWh. An option for a dedicated room group or auxiliary consumers when running duty, starts and islanded arrangements fit the system capability.
Sungrow PowerStack 510CS-4H
Rated AC output
125 kW
Nominal battery capacity
514 kWh
Nominal 125 kW and 514 kWh. More stored energy for a compatible load. Additional capacity does not mean the system can supply a higher simultaneous compressor start.
Sungrow PowerTitan 2.0 ESS
Output depends on configuration
up to 2.5 MW
Nominal battery capacity
5,015 kWh
Nominal energy: 5,015 kWh. Configurations: 2,500 kW (2h) or 1,250 kW (4h). These labels do not establish how long a warehouse will hold its required temperature.
Containerized PowerTitan 2.0 for justified substantial cold storage demand. Define connection, voltage conversion, source transfer and islanded control as part of the complete project.
Nominal kW and kWh do not establish a number of rooms or storage hours. Compressor profiles and agreed zone duties are required.
Starts and simultaneous demand
Assess starting methods, variable-frequency drives and the load operating at each moment. Average readings may not reveal a short peak.
Duty across the day
Compare active rooms, ambient conditions, defrost and loading. Calculate backup duration from the agreed electrical consumption profile.
A suitable utility area
Review clearances, cable routes, foundations and service access. Coordinate placement with vehicle movements and refrigeration plant operation.
Annual consumption, supply terms and recorded generator operation establish the baseline. Agreed cold room duties define the technical scope of each option.
Present operating costs
Electricity bills, fuel, generator maintenance and interruption records. Include consequences for stored goods only where the owner has evidence to support them.
The proposed arrangement
Storage, connection works, controls, installation and support. Assess solar and load shifting as separate scenarios, including battery losses and operating life.
Price and payback follow collection of warehouse data. Lower peak demand alone does not guarantee a lower tariff or equal savings across different facilities.
From observation to agreed cold room operation
Choose the support your zones need
Individual rooms may rely on a shared compressor plant. Agree the backup boundary from the actual refrigeration circuit, rather than a list of rooms alone.
Temperature monitoring
Controllers, event records, communications and alerts. This supports observation of the rooms but does not replace power for refrigeration equipment.
Priority cold rooms
Selected zones with their required compressors, fans and pumps. Check whether this group can operate separately from the remaining warehouse.
Generator transition
Assess storage within a scheme using the existing generator. Verify starting time, transfer, charging and the permitted interruption for that arrangement.
The refrigeration facility
Backup for an agreed combination of zones and engineering systems. Dock equipment, lighting and logistics loads enter the scope only where specified.
Delivery around an operating storage facility
From room records to site testing
Plan the project with refrigeration engineers, the electrical team and warehouse management. Coordinate works and tests with cold room operation and goods movements.
01
Map the requirement
Record zones, storage conditions, goods schedules and the intended outage response. Identify the technical and commercial decision makers.
02
Validate the inputs
Assess compressor cycles, peaks, seasonal variation and the generator. Agree additional measurements where existing records are insufficient.
03
Agree the works
Prepare the configuration, electrical scheme, budget and installation sequence. Record backup boundaries and operating conditions in the technical brief.
04
Test at the warehouse
Check agreed duties, control handover and grid restoration. Provide documentation, team instruction and the agreed service arrangements.

Electrical duties and storage conditions to establish before selecting a battery system.
Does a battery guarantee the required temperature in every room?
A battery alone cannot provide that guarantee. Results depend on refrigeration equipment, room condition, loading, door openings and the agreed electrical duty. The quality team sets temperature limits and responses to deviations. ONG assesses power for the consumers needed to support the agreed task.
How does cooling capacity differ from electrical input power?
Cooling capacity describes heat removal; electrical input powers drives and other consumers. Both may be stated in kW, but the figures are not interchangeable. Backup selection requires electrical ratings, measured demand and the installation’s operating duties.
How are compressor starting currents included?
Review motor type, starting method, variable-frequency drives, simultaneous operation and equipment limits. Hourly average consumption can conceal brief peaks. Agree the measurement interval and equipment connection sequence with the electrical and refrigeration teams.
How many hours can a refrigerated warehouse run on batteries?
Calculate duration from the selected load profile, available battery energy, losses and system limits. Include seasonal conditions, loading and equipment cycles. Without those inputs, we do not assign a universal operating time or number of cold rooms.
Can backup cover only selected cold rooms?
Check the refrigeration circuit first. Rooms sharing compressors or auxiliary equipment may also need those common components to receive power. Establish dependencies and the possibility of separating the loads before defining a dedicated backup group.
Can Sungrow storage work with an existing diesel generator?
Compatibility must be established for the selected configuration. Review the generator, automatic transfer, protection, switching sequence and battery charging. If the design includes sources operating in parallel, assess those conditions separately.
Do controllers and temperature recording need a UPS?
A dedicated UPS may be part of the solution for circuits that cannot tolerate a supply break. A large storage system does not remove the need to check each controller, communications device or recording system. Permitted interruptions depend on equipment documentation and the agreed operating duty.
What happens to evaporator defrost and compressor restart?
Include auxiliary cycles and recovery requirements in the backup plan. Restart delays and interlocks follow the refrigeration manufacturer’s instructions. Do not assume that every unit should restart together automatically without reviewing the electrical arrangement and settings.
When is PowerTitan appropriate instead of PowerStack?
Consider PowerTitan for an agreed substantial load group. PowerStack may fit a dedicated group where output, starting demand and the islanded arrangement are compatible. Selection is based on electrical data, rather than floor area, tonnes of goods or pallet positions alone.
Can solar benefit a warehouse with overnight cooling demand?
Compare solar generation with daily consumption and seasonal patterns. Overnight loads need a separate energy scenario. An ordinary grid-tied solar installation does not supply the site during an outage without a specifically designed backup arrangement. Assess storage economics using actual demand and supply terms.
What determines system cost, warranty and service scope?
Selected zones, equipment, electrical infrastructure, installation and site conditions determine the project scope. Cost comparisons account for tariffs, generator operation, losses and battery life. Price, warranty periods and service provision are set out in the quotation and contract for the chosen configuration.
What information is needed to size cold storage backup?
Prepare the temperature zone plan, permissible interruptions, equipment list, starting data, daily measurements, bills and electrical diagram. Include temperature logs, loading schedules, generator details and potential siting. For a new warehouse, forecasts are identified separately; missing inputs lead to an agreed measurement plan.
